PHILADELPHIA, PA —It’s time to put on your running shoes and get wild at the Philadelphia Zoo! The popular annual springtime fundraiser, “Run Wild for the Zoo 5K and One-Mile Fun Run,” is back, and registration is now open.
On Sunday, April 28, join over a thousand enthusiastic participants as they race through the zoo’s sprawling 42-acre campus. This unique event not only provides a fun-filled day but also serves a crucial cause – supporting the 1,900 animals that call the zoo home.
Neil Batiancila, Chief Development Officer at the Philadelphia Zoo, emphasizes the importance of this community-driven event. “Our supporters make a world of a difference for the animals in our care,” he says. “Hosting this race and fun run allows our community to experience and support the zoo in a unique way. Their contributions are invaluable, aiding our nutrition, veterinary, and enrichment programs, all essential to animal well-being.”
To secure an exclusive race day t-shirt, participants are encouraged to register by April 1. All registrations must be completed by April 22, and there will be no race day registration. The registration fee is $40 for the 5K and $25 for the fun run/walk. Participants are also encouraged to raise an additional $100 for the zoo as part of their participation. The registration includes admission to the zoo for the day.
The event kicks off bright and early, with check-in opening at 7:00 am and the 5K run starting promptly at 8:00 am. A post-race ceremony will begin at 8:45 am, awarding the top male and female overall, as well as in each age category. Post-race snacks, donated by Riverwards Produce, will be available, followed by an enjoyable morning at the zoo.
Whether you’re a seasoned runner or a casual walker, “Run Wild for the Zoo” offers a unique opportunity to support the Philadelphia Zoo’s mission while enjoying a day filled with fitness and fun. Mark your calendars, lace up those shoes, and get ready to run wild for a great cause! For more information, including race maps, visit the official Philadelphia Zoo website.
