Route 30 Bridge Paving to Disrupt Traffic Flow over Susquehanna River

Travel Restrictions

COLUMBIA, PA — Motorists traveling westbound on the Route 30 (Wrights Ferry) Bridge, which spans the Susquehanna River between Hellam Township in York County and Columbia Borough in Lancaster County, should prepare for potential delays this Thursday. The Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (PennDOT) has announced a lane restriction due to paving operations related to an ongoing median barrier project on the bridge.

Weather permitting, the left lane of the westbound Route 30 will be closed from 9:00 AM to 3:00 PM on Thursday, January 11. This six-hour window during daylight hours is necessary due to cold overnight temperatures that would impede the paving process.

The lane closure is part of an extensive improvement project being undertaken by JD Eckman, Inc., a construction company based in Atglen, PA. The project, which carries a price tag of $5,247,787, includes upgrades to the median barrier and other construction activities on the bridge. Completion of the project is expected by November 2024.

This temporary disruption to traffic flow could potentially cause significant delays for commuters and travelers using this popular route across the Susquehanna River. Motorists are advised to factor in extra travel time or consider alternative routes if possible.
