NEWTOWN TWP, PA — The Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (PennDOT) has announced that roadway construction will continue on two state highways in Newtown Township, Delaware County. This effort is part of a local safety improvement project.
From Sunday, July 21, through Tuesday, July 23, lane closures will impact Route 3 (West Chester Pike) in both directions between Boot Road and Charles Ellis Drive. The work, which involves milling and paving, will take place from 7:00 PM to 6:00 AM each night.
On Wednesday, July 24, and Thursday, July 25, the same stretch of Route 3 will experience lane closures for curb and sidewalk reconstruction. This work will also occur from 7:00 PM to 6:00 AM.
Additionally, from 7:00 PM on Friday, July 26, to 6:00 AM on Monday, July 29, Bryn Mawr Avenue will be closed and detoured at the intersection with Route 3 for drainage installation. During this period, motorists will be directed to use Route 3 and Route 320 (Sproul Road). Local access will be maintained up to the work zone.
Motorists should anticipate significant backups and delays. PennDOT advises allowing extra travel time when navigating near or through the work areas. All scheduled activities are weather dependent.
Drivers are encouraged to plan alternate routes and stay updated on traffic conditions to minimize disruptions.
