SOUTHEASTERN PENNSYLVANIA — Motorists in Bucks and Delaware counties should prepare for a series of traffic slowdowns as the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (PennDOT) kicks off extensive resurfacing operations on several state highways. This ambitious initiative, part of a broader effort to repair and pave more than 200 miles of state highway across the Philadelphia region, aims to significantly improve road conditions but will necessitate travel restrictions that may disrupt daily commutes.
In Bucks County, from Monday, April 8, through early May, drivers should anticipate periodic lane closures with flagging on Butler Avenue between County Line Road and New Britain Road. This work, affecting New Britain and Doylestown townships as well as Chalfont Borough, involves milling and paving operations that are essential for extending the roadway’s lifespan and enhancing safety for all users.
Delaware County will see its share of disruptions starting Monday, April 1, through Friday, April 5, with a lane closure and flagging on Concord Road between Bethel Road and U.S. 1 (Baltimore Pike). This closure, impacting Aston, Concord, Chester, and Bethel townships, will accommodate utility adjustments during daytime hours and milling and paving work during nighttime hours from 7:00 PM to 5:00 AM.
Furthermore, Route 352 (Edgmont Avenue) between 9th Street and Ridge Boulevard in Parkside and Brookhaven boroughs, as well as the City of Chester, will undergo utility adjustments, milling, and paving. Engle Street in Chester Township is also slated for similar improvements. These activities, scheduled for April 2 and 3, from 9:00 AM to 3:00 PM, and continuing at night through April 5, will inevitably lead to additional slowdowns.
PennDOT urges drivers to allow extra time when traveling through these work areas and to exercise caution around construction crews. Additionally, As with all outdoor construction work, these schedules are contingent upon favorable weather conditions. Motorists are encouraged to stay informed about potential changes to the work schedule and to plan their routes accordingly.
