Rescheduled Closure on Westbound Route 283 in Rapho Township

Travel Restrictions

RAPHO, PA — The Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (PennDOT) announced that the planned closure of westbound Route 283 in Rapho Township, Lancaster County, has been postponed due to the forecast for rain. The new closure dates are set for the following weekend.

Weather permitting, westbound Route 283 will be closed at the Mount Joy/Route 230 Exit from 8:00 PM on Friday, August 16, until 6:00 AM on Monday, August 19. This closure will facilitate the setting of beams on the Strickler Road (Route 4045) bridge, which spans the westbound lanes of Route 283. The bridge has been closed since last October following a vehicle strike.

Motorists traveling westbound on Route 283 will need to exit at the Mount Joy/Route 230 Exit. They should then follow Route 230 west through Mount Joy Borough to Cloverleaf Road, turn right, and continue to the Cloverleaf Road Interchange to rejoin westbound Route 283. A detour remains in place for Strickler Road, directing traffic via Route 772 (Mount Joy Road), Breneman Road, and Zink Road.

Ryland Construction Company, Inc., based in Mount Wolf, is managing the $652,696 project. All construction is expected to be completed by October 11, 2024.
