WILMINGTON, DE — Salar Ghahramani, founder and lead policy strategist at Global Policy Advisors LLC, has unveiled a detailed proposal for establishing a U.S. sovereign wealth fund (SWF). According to Ghahramani, the creation of such a national investment vehicle is increasingly plausible within the next three years, particularly under unified Republican control of both the presidency and Congress.
“A U.S. sovereign wealth fund has moved from theoretical to realistic,” Ghahramani stated, highlighting the favorable political climate. He emphasized that the unified government could pave the way for a fund aimed at targeting strategic domestic industries and safeguarding national economic interests.
The report suggests that the SWF would likely be integrated within the Department of the Treasury, under the watchful eye of Congress to ensure transparent governance. “A Treasury-based structure would provide a robust institutional foundation and clear accountability,” Ghahramani explained. He also noted the possibility of legislative measures reducing the Federal Reserve Board’s independence to allow the central bank a pivotal role within the SWF.
This sovereign wealth fund would focus on investments in U.S.-based industries and technologies, alongside commodities and currencies, to bolster national security and competitive standing. Restrictions are expected on activities that could undermine U.S. dominance in critical sectors or national interests.
Ghahramani underscored the broader vision behind the proposal: “This isn’t just about creating a fund but establishing a framework that aligns U.S. investment activities with broader national goals.” He pointed out that the strategy would carefully balance financial returns with the need to maintain U.S. economic and strategic advantages globally.
As discussions around the creation of a U.S. sovereign wealth fund intensify, the potential economic and political implications are set to be a focal point in shaping the country’s financial strategies and policy-making landscapes.
