PHILADELPHIA, PA — Eight private company boards have been recognized with the 2025 Private Company Boards of the Year awards by MLR Media for their outstanding business governance practices. The awards will be presented during the Private Company Governance Summit®, held May 14-16, 2025, at the Ritz-Carlton Pentagon City in Washington, D.C.
The award recipients span a diverse range of industries and ownership structures, showcasing exemplary governance that benefits stakeholders including owners, employees, shareholders, and the broader community. Honorees include Adolfson & Peterson Construction, Catamount Constructors, Dakota Supply Group, Vantage Elevator Solutions, Biosphere Corporation, Summit Brewing Company, First Women’s Bank, and Sonoma Biotherapeutics.
Recognizing both fiduciary and advisory boards, this tenth annual awards program highlights boards that maintain a governance structure exceeding legal requirements. Fiduciary boards, legally tasked with protecting shareholder interests and making binding decisions, were evaluated by company revenue and ownership type. Advisory boards, though informal and non-binding, were equally acknowledged for their strategic contributions.
Jonathan May, President of MLR Media, emphasized the significance of honoring governance excellence in private sector companies, stating, “These boards prioritize leadership, accountability, and responsible decision-making, reinforcing the essential role governance plays in business success.”
The boards of eight companies were recognized across various categories, including family-owned, closely held, employee-owned, and private equity-backed organizations. Among the honorees, Dakota Supply Group and Vantage Elevator Solutions were acknowledged for their operations in the mid-revenue range, while Summit Brewing Company and First Women’s Bank received accolades for their closely held ownership models under $100 million in revenues.
The Private Company Governance Summit®, in its 13th year, serves as a leading national forum addressing governance challenges faced by privately owned businesses. The event continues to champion best practices tailored to the needs of family-owned, employee-owned, and private equity-owned firms.
With the awards spotlighting high-performing boards, MLR Media aims to inspire continued excellence in governance practices. Looking ahead, these boards are not only setting benchmarks for operational success but also underscoring the critical value of robust governance frameworks in building resilient and purposeful organizations.
