PHILADELPHIA, PA — The Project Management Institute (PMI) has announced an influential partnership with Green Project Management (GPM), signaling a new era for sustainable and regenerative project management. PMI now holds a majority stake in a newly established joint venture with GPM, incorporating GPM’s tools, standards, certifications, and frameworks into its expansive platform to better equip project professionals in driving sustainability efforts.
This collaboration comes as sustainability emerges as a key focus for industries across the globe. PMI research highlights that projects aligned with social good are nearly twice as likely to succeed, yet only a fraction achieve this standard. The new joint venture seeks to address this gap by offering a clear roadmap to integrate sustainability into project lifecycles, backed by robust training and resources like the GPM® P5 Standard for Sustainability in Project Management.
“This joint venture is about placing project professionals at the center of [sustainability] transformation,” said Pierre Le Manh, President and CEO of PMI. “We are in a strong position to help our community turn good intentions into meaningful, measurable action…toward a more resilient and prosperous future.”
GPM founder Joel Carboni echoed this vision, emphasizing that projects must focus on creating prosperity, restoring ecosystems, and building equitable communities.
The partnership builds on a longstanding relationship between PMI and GPM, which began in 2022 with PMI offering GPM’s certifications and content. By integrating GPM’s cutting-edge sustainability tools into its global ecosystem, PMI aims to empower professionals and organizations to align their work with sustainable development goals.
Looking ahead, PMI and GPM are poised to drive significant progress in making sustainability a central pillar of project management, setting a clear direction for transforming industries and communities worldwide.
