PHILADELPHIA, PA — The Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (PennDOT) has unveiled plans for extensive nighttime paving and repair work on the Interstate 76 Schuylkill Expressway in Philadelphia. The project, valued at $37.9 million, aims to enhance the condition of nearly five miles of the interstate, including several critical bridges and ramps.
From Monday, November 4, through Thursday, November 7, between 9:00 PM and 5:00 AM, drivers should anticipate lane closures on both eastbound and westbound sections of I-76, particularly between the U.S. 1 and 30th Street Station interchanges. These closures are essential to facilitate paving and bridge deck repairs, crucial components of the project.
Additionally, on the nights of Wednesday, November 6, and Thursday, November 7, ramps connecting eastbound I-76 to Girard Avenue will be closed and detoured as part of the paving process. Motorists will need to follow posted detour routes during these hours.
Given the scope of the work, PennDOT advises drivers to allot extra travel time when navigating these areas, as delays and traffic backups are expected. All planned activities are contingent on favorable weather conditions.
