PHILADELPHIA, PA — Mayor Cherelle L. Parker recently announced that an independent accounting firm has been hired to conduct a forensic investigation into the finances of the City’s Office of Homeless Services (OHS). The investigation will be carried out in collaboration with the City Office of Inspector General.

Mayor Parker stated that the Office of Inspector General is already conducting an investigation into OHS’s contracting and spending practices. She described the preliminary findings shared by the Inspector General as ‘grave concerns’ which necessitated the hiring of an independent accountant with specialized expertise to assist in the forensic investigation of OHS.

The Parker administration has chosen the accounting firm of Horsey, Buckner & Heffler LLP to carry out the forensic investigation. The principals in the firm include Michael G. Horsey and Kia D. Buckner, both reputed for their expertise in the field.

Mayor Parker further acknowledged the efforts of Councilmember Katherine Gilmore Richardson, who has been instrumental in bringing attention to potential irregularities within OHS. Mayor Parker praised Richardson’s leadership, commitment to diligence, and her introduction of legislation to address these issues.

The Mayor assured that once the findings from this investigation are complete, they will be shared with the Office of Controller Christy Brady. This move underlines the administration’s commitment to transparency and its dedication to hold public offices accountable for their actions.
