KENNETT SQUARE, PA — A man from Philadelphia is facing serious charges after an alleged attempt to acquire firearms illegally in Kennett Square, according to local police. The incident has once again highlighted the critical role of background checks in preventing illegal firearm transactions.
On February 9, 2024, Kennett Square Police were alerted by the Pennsylvania State Police Investigation Unit about a suspicious individual attempting to purchase firearms from a licensed dealer in the borough. The suspect was later identified as 34-year-old Lewis Blake, a resident of Philadelphia.
The dealer, following standard protocol, conducted a background check through the Pennsylvania Instant Check System (PICS). The findings from the background check reportedly indicated that Blake was prohibited from acquiring a firearm. As a result, the authorities were promptly notified.
Following the investigation, on February 12, 2024, charges were filed against Blake for the Sale or Transfer of Firearms and Unsworn Falsifications to Authorities at District Court 15-3-04.
Nevertheless, it’s critical to remember that these charges are allegations at this point, and Blake, like anyone accused of a crime, is presumed innocent until proven guilty in court.
We will continue to follow this story, providing updates as more information becomes available.
