PHILADELPHIA, PA — Philadelphia shines bright as businesses in Manayunk rally for a cause close to their hearts. This Women’s History Month, female-owned enterprises in the district are extending a hand of solidarity to women across the greater Philadelphia community.
Marking its 3rd year, the MNYK Wingwoman Initiative resumes its mission to support women’s health and wellness. This program, organized by Brandy Deieso, owner of The Little Apple, encourages donations of essential items for postpartum women. The donated supplies are set to benefit Grab-N-Flow, an organization that provides free menstrual and postpartum products to women in need, via their strategically placed sheds throughout the city.
The drive invites all Philadelphia residents, customers, and guests to contribute items from the wish list. These include postpartum adult diapers, postpartum underwear, unopened baby formula, diapers of all sizes, and pregnancy tests, among others. Companies and individuals are encouraged to donate until March 31, 2024, at any participating location in Manayunk.
Not one to stand alone, Deieso has enlisted the support of nearly two dozen other businesses this year. In recognition of their contribution, donors will receive a complimentary MNYK Wingwoman vinyl sticker as a gesture of gratitude.
This year, the initiative also introduces a new facet to their campaign. Recognizing the pervasive issue of domestic violence, the MNYK Wingwoman will also extend support to Women Against Abuse, a leading domestic violence advocate and service provider in Philadelphia. Monetary donations for this organization will serve to further bolster the services and advocacy they provide.
The MNYK Wingwoman Initiative isn’t just about celebrating women’s history; it’s about actively supporting women today. Its incorporation of both physical donations and monetary aid highlights the multifaceted ways in which we can all contribute to the health and wellbeing of the women in our community.
Among the participating businesses are Awakenings Pole and Aerial Fitness Studio, Citrine Glow Medispa, Remis on Main, The Little Apple, Vamp Boutique, and Yanako.
The MNYK Wingwoman Initiative not only highlights the unity among Manayunk’s female business owners, but it also underscores the role businesses can play in rallying their communities for a shared cause. And in this case, that shared cause is supporting the health and wellness of the manifold women who make Philadelphia the vibrant city it is.
In this season of Women’s History Month, these businesses are not just recounting stories of women’s accomplishments throughout time; they are writing their own chapters, contributing to the ongoing narrative of women empowering women. A sticker may seem a small token, but it represents participation in a larger act of collective goodwill.
So head down to Manayunk, drop off your donations, and wear your sticker with pride. Because while history may be written by those who came before us, it’s continued by us, today.
