PHILADELPHIA, PA — In a significant move, the City of Philadelphia Department of Aviation, which operates Philadelphia International Airport (PHL) and Northeast Philadelphia Airport (PNE), recently announced the promotion of Michael Morris to the role of Deputy Chief Information Officer (CIO) of Customer Engagement.
A New Role Paving the Way for Innovation
This Deputy CIO for Customer Engagement role is a new addition to the Department of Aviation. Morris will be responsible for overseeing software engineering, the solutions architect group, the IT helpdesk, and the IT Project Management Office within the airports’ IT Department. These teams play a crucial role in the constant innovation, improvements, and daily operations at the Department of Aviation.
Morris joined the Department in 2022 as Director of Information Technology, proving himself as a strong leader and forging relationships with many airport stakeholders. His promotion reflects his success in this role and his potential to drive further advancements in his new position.
A Leader Poised for Success
Allen Mehta, the CIO of the Department of Aviation, expressed confidence in Morris’s abilities. He said, “Michael is a strong leader and has accomplished great things since joining the Department of Aviation, including cultivating relationships with many airport stakeholders.” Mehta added that Morris would continue to oversee the growth and responsibilities of the IT Helpdesk and implement various software systems and solutions that support the Department of Aviation.
Before joining the Department of Aviation, Morris spent 17 years honing his skills in the IT sector at Penn and Penn Medicine. His extensive experience and proven track record suggest he is well-equipped to take on this new role and contribute significantly to the Department of Aviation’s ongoing efforts to enhance its operations and customer engagement. With Morris at the helm of these critical areas, the future of Philadelphia’s airports looks bright.
