PHILADELPHIA, PA — Philadelphia’s vibrant jazz heritage takes center stage this April with the launch of the inaugural Philly Jazz Month 2025. Spearheaded by Creative Philadelphia and Mid Atlantic Arts, the city-wide celebration will feature a lineup of jazz-inspired events, performances, and educational programs throughout the month.

Generously supported by PECO and the Pennsylvania Council on the Arts, Philly Jazz Month aims to honor the city’s contributions to jazz history while nurturing the future of this dynamic musical genre. The initiative will invest over $30,000 in grants to support local artists and organizations in showcasing the rich cultural legacy of jazz in Philadelphia.

“By pairing youth with seasoned jazz musicians, we aim to nurture a new generation of talented jazz musicians,” said Val Gay, Chief Cultural Officer and Executive Director, Creative Philadelphia. “We are also proud to support emerging and professional jazz musicians across the city by providing funding for jazz-inspired cultural programs throughout April.”

With its roots deeply embedded in African American culture, Philadelphia’s jazz history is celebrated for producing iconic artists who have left an indelible mark on the genre. Leaders of the event hope that Philly Jazz Month will elevate awareness of the city’s past contributions while creating new opportunities for collaboration and recognition.

“Philly Jazz Month 2025 isn’t just a celebration—it’s a movement,” emphasized Juan Souki, Executive Director of Mid Atlantic Arts. “We’re excited to partner with Creative Philadelphia for the first time to celebrate local jazz artists. By providing funding and promotional opportunities, we’re committed to preserving and amplifying Philadelphia’s rich jazz legacy.”
