PHILADELPHIA, PA — The Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (PennDOT) has announced planned core boring operations on southbound I-95 in Philadelphia, which will require overnight lane closures next week.
The lane closure will be in effect from Monday, February 10, through Friday, February 14, between 8:00 PM and 5:00 AM the following morning. The affected area spans from the Girard Avenue interchange to the I-676 interchange, where crews will conduct essential testing work.
PennDOT advises motorists to anticipate significant delays and backups in the vicinity of the work zone and to allocate additional travel time. The schedule is subject to weather conditions and may change accordingly.
These core borings are a preliminary step in the design phase of the I-95/GR6 project, a significant reconstruction initiative targeting southbound I-95 and its structures between Frankford Avenue and Race Street. Construction for this phase is anticipated to begin in 2026.
Motorists are encouraged to stay informed and plan accordingly to avoid disruptions during this critical phase of project preparation.
