PHILADELPHIA, PA — The Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (PennDOT) has announced plans to conduct bridge and sign inspections on southbound Interstate 95 and both directions on U.S. 1 (Roosevelt Expressway) in Philadelphia.

These inspections are part of PennDOT’s ongoing efforts to ensure the safety and efficiency of the state’s road infrastructure. PennDOT oversees the inspection of around 6,600 locally owned bridges that are over 20 feet in length and conducts approximately 18,000 inspections each year on state-owned highway bridges.

From Monday, December 11, through Thursday, December 14, between 9:00 AM and 3:00 PM, motorists can expect moving alternating lane closures in both directions on U.S. 1 (Roosevelt Expressway). These closures, which will occur between the Interstate 76 and the Route 611 interchanges, are necessary for the planned sign inspections.

Additionally, from Tuesday, December 12, through Friday, December 15, also between 9:00 AM and 3:00 PM, alternating lane closures are scheduled on southbound I-95. These closures, which will be situated between the Enterprise Avenue/Island Avenue and the Essington Avenue/Bartram Avenue interchanges, are for the bridge inspection.

Motorists are advised to allow extra time when traveling through these areas as slowdowns can occur. All scheduled inspection activities are dependent on weather conditions and may be rescheduled if necessary.

These inspections are critical for maintaining the safety and durability of our roadways and bridges. They also help to identify any potential issues or defects that could affect the functionality of signs and bridges. Motorists are encouraged to exercise patience during these necessary inspections for the betterment of our road infrastructure.
