DELAWARE COUNTY, PA — The Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (PennDOT) has commenced a comprehensive safety improvement project along the Lansdowne Avenue corridor, which spans from Marshall Road to Baltimore Avenue through Lansdowne, Yeadon, and Darby boroughs.
The initiative aims to enhance traffic safety and reduce the frequent angle and rear-end collisions along the corridor. Planned upgrades include retroreflective backplates on traffic signals, new pedestrian countdown timers, additional lighting, mast arms, and the construction of ADA-compliant ramps. Fiber optic cables will also be installed on current utility poles to improve synchronization of traffic signals from Marshall Road to Mercy Fitzgerald Hospital.
The project encompasses key intersections along Lansdowne Avenue, including Marshall Road, Plumstead Avenue, Essex Avenue, Greenwood Avenue, and Baltimore Avenue, with the goal of significantly reducing injury and fatal crashes.
Lane closures with flagging are scheduled for northbound Lansdowne Avenue/Main Street between Lincoln Avenue and U.S. 13 (MacDade Boulevard) from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. on weekdays, April 14 through April 25, to facilitate fiber optic cable installation. Motorists should anticipate delays and are encouraged to plan accordingly.
Kuharchick Construction, Inc., based in Exeter, Pennsylvania, is overseeing the project, fully financed by federal funds. PennDOT expects the work to conclude in spring 2026.
