PHILADELPHIA, PA — The Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (PennDOT) announced the permanent closure of a section of Carver Street under Interstate 95 in Northeast Philadelphia yesterday. The closure is part of a construction project for a new southbound ramp that will directly connect I-95 to Tacony Street at the relocated Carver Street underpass.
This ramp construction is a significant part of PennDOT’s $268 million I-95 Section BS2 project, which aims to reconstruct I-95 in both directions between Margaret Street and the relocated Carver Street. The project represents an ambitious investment in the region’s infrastructure and is expected to significantly improve traffic flow and safety along this busy corridor.
Despite the closure, motorists will still be able to access James Street from Tacony Street by using Fraley Street. This provision ensures minimal disruption to local traffic and maintains accessibility for residents and businesses around the area.
