SKIPPACK TWP, PA — The Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (PennDOT) has announced a live virtual public meeting scheduled for Thursday, June 13. The meeting will discuss the upcoming project to replace the bridge that carries Route 73 (Skippack Pike) over Skippack Creek in Skippack Township, Montgomery County.

The proposed project involves replacing the existing bridge with a single-span, reinforced concrete PA Bulb-Tee beam bridge. This new structure will feature two 12-foot travel lanes and 8.3-foot shoulders. The project also includes the installation of a new trail connection by the Department of Conservation and Natural Resources (DCNR) and aims to improve the bridge’s performance during storm events.

As part of its public outreach efforts, PennDOT encourages residents to participate in the virtual meeting. The event will begin at 7:00 PM on June 13 via Microsoft Live Teams. Participants can join the meeting by clicking on the provided link before the presentation starts. The design team will present an overview of the project and then answer questions through the platform’s Q&A feature.

To attend the meeting, participants need internet access and a computer or mobile device. PennDOT asks anyone with special needs or requiring additional assistance to contact Project Manager Judith Arena or Consultant Designer Project Manager Cathy Farrell.

For those unable to join the live session, a recording of the meeting and project materials will be available on the project’s webpage. An online comment form will also be accessible for the public to submit feedback or questions.

Improving the bridge’s performance during storm events is another key aspect of the project. Enhanced drainage and structural integrity will mitigate flood risks, ensuring the bridge remains functional and safe in adverse weather conditions.

Public involvement in the planning process is vital for the success of infrastructure projects. By attending the virtual meeting and providing feedback, residents can influence decisions that directly impact their community. PennDOT’s initiative to engage the public underscores its commitment to transparency and responsiveness in project development.

Overall, the upcoming virtual meeting is an opportunity for the community to learn about and contribute to an important infrastructure project. PennDOT invites all interested parties to join the discussion and help shape the future of transportation in Skippack Township.
