RICHLAND TWP, PA — The Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (PennDOT) is taking proactive steps to address aging infrastructure in Bucks County with plans to replace two critical bridges along Route 309 (West End Blvd) over Morgan Creek and Beaver Run in Richland Township. In an effort to engage with the community and gather input, PennDOT has scheduled a live virtual meeting for Thursday, April 18, at 7:00 PM.

The upcoming project aims not only to replace the existing structures but also to enhance them significantly. The new bridges will be constructed on the same alignment as the current ones but will be extended to better manage stream flow, a move that could mitigate potential flooding issues and improve waterway health. Additionally, the updated designs include wider shoulders, which promise to offer safer travel for motorists by providing extra space for emergency stops and breakdowns.

Improvements are not limited to the bridges themselves. PennDOT’s plans also encompass updates to guide rails, barriers, signage, striping, and drainage systems surrounding the structures. These enhancements are expected to contribute to overall travel safety and efficiency on this section of Route 309, a vital artery for the region.

The public meeting, to be hosted via Microsoft Live Teams, represents a key component of PennDOT’s goal of public involvement in its projects. By offering a platform for discussion and feedback, the department aims to foster transparency and community engagement throughout the development process. Attendees will have the opportunity to view a detailed presentation by the design team, followed by a question-and-answer session where they can voice concerns, ask questions, and offer suggestions.

For those unable to participate in the live event, a recording of the meeting along with related materials will be made available on the project’s webpage. Additionally, the public is encouraged to submit feedback through an online comment form, ensuring that all voices can be heard.

This initiative reflects PennDOT’s broader strategy to modernize Pennsylvania’s transportation infrastructure while prioritizing safety and environmental considerations. By replacing these aging bridges with structures designed to meet current and future needs, PennDOT is not only enhancing roadway safety but also taking a step towards preserving the natural beauty and ecological balance of Bucks County’s waterways.

Residents interested in learning more about the project or participating in the virtual meeting are encouraged to prepare by ensuring they have internet access and a compatible device. Those requiring special assistance are advised to reach out to PennDOT Project Manager Madeleine Fausto or Design Project Manager Jason Beecher ahead of time to arrange necessary accommodations.
