PennDOT Announces Overnight Bridge Repairs on I-95 in Northeast Philadelphia

PHILADELPHIA, PA — The Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (PennDOT) will continue overnight bridge repairs and other construction activities on Interstate 95 in Northeast Philadelphia next week.

On Monday, August 5, and Tuesday, August 6, lanes on northbound I-95 between the Cottman Avenue and Academy Road interchanges will close for the installation of pavement reflectors. A single lane will close at 9:00 PM, followed by a double lane closure from 12:00 AM to 5:00 AM.

From Monday, August 5, through Friday, August 9, similar closures will occur on southbound I-95 between the Academy Road and Cottman Avenue interchanges. A single lane will close at 9:00 PM, and a double lane will close from 12:00 AM to 5:00 AM for pavement reflector installation.

Additionally, southbound I-95 between the Bridge Street and Betsy Ross Bridge interchanges will have alternating left and right single lane closures from 9:00 PM to 5:00 AM for pavement repairs during the same dates.

The ramp to southbound I-95 at the Bridge Street Interchange will close for pavement repairs from 9:00 PM to 5:00 AM, Monday through Friday. Motorists will be detoured south on Aramingo Avenue to Adams Avenue for access to southbound I-95.

From 9:00 AM Tuesday, August 6, to 3:00 PM Friday, August 9, the ramp from Aramingo Avenue to both directions of I-95 at the Betsy Ross Bridge Interchange will close for intersection improvements. Drivers will be directed to the nearby intersection of Aramingo Avenue and Adams Avenue to access I-95.

Motorists should expect significant delays and are advised to allow extra travel time. All construction schedules are weather dependent.

These activities are part of PennDOT’s $37.4 million project to make high-priority repairs on 27 bridges along I-95, ensuring the safety and functionality of this critical corridor. The intersection work is part of the nearly completed $93.6 million I-95 Section BR2 project, aimed at improving connections between I-95, the Betsy Ross Bridge, and local streets.
