PennDOT Announces Nighttime Lane Closures on I-76 for Bridge Repairs

Interstate 76

PHILADELPHIA, PA — The Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (PennDOT) will conduct nighttime bridge deck and inlet repairs on I-76 (Schuylkill Expressway) next week as part of a $37.9 million resurfacing and repair project. The initiative spans nearly five miles of the interstate, including on-and-off ramps and over 20 bridges in Philadelphia and Lower Merion Township, Montgomery County.

Scheduled closures will occur from Tuesday, April 22, through Friday, April 25, between 9 p.m. and 5 a.m. the following morning. One lane in both directions will be closed between the Spring Garden Street and U.S. 1 South (City Avenue) interchanges. Motorists should anticipate significant delays and are encouraged to plan for extra travel time.

PennDOT has emphasized that all work is weather dependent and may be adjusted if necessary. These repairs are part of a broader effort to improve infrastructure and ensure safer commutes for travelers along one of the region’s busiest roadways.

Drivers are urged to stay alert, follow posted signs, and exercise caution when navigating through the area.
