WEST CONSHOHOCKEN, PA — The Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (PennDOT) has announced that night construction activities will continue next week on I-476 and I-76 (Schuylkill Expressway) as part of a $63.7 million project to improve nearly 17 miles of highway.
From Monday, January 20, through Friday, January 24, lane closures will occur nightly between 8:00 PM and 5:00 AM on northbound and southbound I-476 between the I-76 and I-95 interchanges. The closures will facilitate bridge repairs, inlet replacement, and tree trimming. Additional closures are scheduled for Thursday and Friday nights on eastbound and westbound I-76 between Matsonford Road and I-476 for barrier removal.
The project, overseen by H&K Group, Inc. of Skippack, PA, aims to upgrade the condition and safety of I-476 and its connecting infrastructure. It includes milling and repaving travel lanes and shoulders, repairing 49 bridges, improving stormwater basins, stabilizing slopes, and updating sound walls, guiderails, drainage systems, and signage.
“The purpose of this project is to extend the design life and improve ride quality and safety of the interstate,” PennDOT stated, emphasizing its commitment to addressing critical roadside elements.
Motorists are advised to expect significant delays and plan additional travel time. Construction activities under this federally funded initiative are expected to conclude by late 2025.
