PHILADELPHIA, PA — The Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (PennDOT) has confirmed that core boring work will take place next week on southbound I-95 in Philadelphia, as part of preparations for a major infrastructure project.
From Monday, January 20, to Friday, January 24, overnight lane closures will be in effect between the Girard Avenue and I-676 interchanges. The closures are scheduled from 8:00 PM to 5:00 AM each night. PennDOT has urged motorists to plan for delays, as significant backups are expected in the work zone. All work is weather dependent.
These core boring operations are integral to the design phase of the I-95/GR6 project. This initiative aims to reconstruct the southbound stretch of I-95, including its bridges, from Frankford Avenue to Race Street. Construction for the GR6 segment is slated to begin in 2026.
Drivers are advised to adjust their travel plans accordingly and exercise caution when navigating the affected areas at night.
