PennDOT Announces Continued Construction on Route 3; Motorists Warned of Delays

Travel Restrictions

NEWTOWN TOWNSHIP, PA — The Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (PennDOT) confirmed that road construction on Route 3 (West Chester Pike) in Newtown Township, Delaware County, will persist as part of a local safety improvement initiative.

According to PennDOT, there will be a scheduled lane closure on Route 3 in both directions between Boot Road and Bryn Mawr Avenue. The closure is slated to start on Tuesday, January 2, 2024, and continue through Friday, January 5, 2024. Work hours are set from 9:00 AM to 3:00 PM, and again from 7:00 PM until 6:00 AM the next morning.

Motorists using this route are urged to factor in additional travel time due to expected delays and backups in the construction zone. The transportation department emphasized that all planned activities hinge on weather conditions, indicating potential changes in schedule should unfavorable weather arise.

PennDOT’s announcement serves as a heads-up for local residents and commuters who are accustomed to travelling along this stretch of Route 3. Adjusting travel plans or seeking alternate routes during the specified hours may help mitigate the impact of the ongoing construction work.
