UPPER CHICHESTER TWP, PA — The Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (PennDOT) has announced scheduled construction on U.S. 322 (Conchester Highway) and Route 452 (Market Street) as part of a $99.47 million project to improve a 1.4-mile section of U.S. 322 in Upper Chichester Township, Delaware County.
On Friday, January 24, from 7:00 PM to 6:00 AM, intermittent five-minute stoppages will occur along westbound U.S. 322 for barrier placement between the CSX Railroad bridge and the Route 452 Interchange. Once these barriers are in place, westbound U.S. 322 will shift into a single-lane pattern for ongoing interchange improvements. Concurrently, Route 452 will experience periodic lane closures for line striping between Meetinghouse Road and Somerset Lane. Motorists should expect potential delays and are encouraged to allow extra travel time.
The project, known as Section 103, will reconstruct and widen U.S. 322 from two lanes to four, add turn lanes, upgrade traffic signals, and improve the U.S. 322/Route 452 Interchange. Additional upgrades include realigning the Cherry Tree/Bethel Avenue intersection and widening the Bethel Avenue ramps.
Section 103 is part of a larger initiative to enhance travel and safety along a 6.7-mile stretch of U.S. 322 across Concord, Bethel, and Upper Chichester townships. Construction activities are weather dependent and set to continue through April, with lane closures possible on weeknights from 7:00 PM to 6:00 AM.
