PHILADELPHIA, PA — To mark Earth Day, the Philadelphia Energy Authority (PEA) and the PA Solar Center are partnering to host a free Zoom webinar on Tuesday, April 22, from 1:00 to 2:00 PM. The session is tailored for businesses, schools, municipalities, and nonprofits across the Greater Philadelphia region, offering insights into the cost-saving benefits of switching to solar energy.
The webinar will spotlight the Solarize Greater Philadelphia and GET Solar programs, which provide unbiased technical support and financial guidance to organizations exploring solar installations. These initiatives highlight available federal tax incentives, grants, and special financing options that can reduce solar installation costs by 30% or more.
“Solar energy is a fantastic investment – especially at a time when electricity costs are forecast to climb higher and higher,” said Lisa Shulock, Director of Commercial Programs at PEA. “With the proper system design and the right mix of financial incentives, solar energy significantly reduces operating costs at facilities large and small.”
Sharon Pillar, Executive Director of the PA Solar Center, emphasized the urgency of transitioning to solar. “Energy bills are rising significantly, and projected increases in 2025 only amplify the need for solutions. Current tax credits and grants make solar highly favorable—but these opportunities may not last, so we urge organizations to act quickly.”
Success stories, like Wesley Family Services in Westmoreland County and the Community College of Allegheny County, illustrate the potential savings. Wesley Family Services estimates $700,000 in energy savings over 25 years through solar, while the college will save $750,000 over 28 years thanks to solar financing via a Power Purchase Agreement.
The event is free, but registration is required. Organizations across the region are encouraged to participate to learn how solar energy can provide long-term utility savings and hedge against volatile electricity prices. Solar remains the fastest-growing energy option in the country, offering economic and environmental benefits to a wide range of sectors.
