PHILADELPHIA, PA — The genetic medicines company Passage Bio, Inc. is now accepting applications for its third annual Tachi Yamada Scholarship program. The initiative, named after the late visionary biopharma industry leader and co-founder of Passage Bio, aims to support budding scientists in Pennsylvania.
The scholarship program is open to sophomore students enrolled in life science programs at four-year colleges and universities in Pennsylvania who aspire to a career in the life sciences industry. The chosen scholar will receive $10,000 in funding, distributed as $5,000 over two consecutive years, to be used toward expenses related to their college education. The deadline for interested students to apply is April 26, 2024.
First launched in October 2021, the Tachi Yamada Scholarship Program was established to honor the memory of Dr. Tadataka (Tachi) Yamada, a co-founder of Passage Bio and chairman of the company’s board of directors until his passing in August 2021. Known for his commitment to mentoring and fostering the development of the next generation of scientists, Yamada left an enduring legacy in the life sciences field.
“Entering its third year, the Tachi Yamada Scholarship program stands as a proud testament to our ongoing dedication to nurturing students who aspire to drive meaningful change through the realms of science,” said Will Chou, M.D., president and chief executive officer of Passage Bio. “Through this initiative, we pay homage to Tachi’s enduring legacy and his invaluable contributions to our field.”
In addition to the financial award, the scholarship program offers another significant benefit: the selected scholar will be matched with a mentor from Passage Bio. This unique opportunity will provide professional growth experiences and guidance over the two-year scholarship period, further equipping the scholar for a successful career in the life sciences industry.
The Tachi Yamada Scholarship program reflects Passage Bio’s commitment not just to scientific advancement, but also to fostering the next generation of life sciences professionals. With this initiative, the company continues to honor Yamada’s legacy while making a tangible investment in the future of the industry.
