FORT WASHINGTON, PA — Senator Maria Collett (D-12 Montgomery) announced this week a significant financial boost for Montgomery County, with over $2.875 million in grants allocated from the Commonwealth Financing Authority’s (CFA) Multimodal Transportation Fund. This investment is earmarked for a series of projects aimed at restoring aging infrastructure and enhancing traffic safety across the senator’s district.

The Multimodal Transportation Fund is a crucial resource in Pennsylvania’s efforts to develop, rehabilitate, and enhance transportation assets. By focusing on multimodal solutions, the fund addresses a wide range of transportation needs, from road and sidewalk improvements to pedestrian safety enhancements. This holistic approach supports not only economic development but also aims to ensure a safe, efficient, and reliable transportation system for all residents.

Senator Collett emphasized the importance of these investments, stating, “Transportation infrastructure investments are key to maintaining safe, walkable communities. I am proud to have secured this funding for improvement projects across my district that will enhance pedestrian safety, reduce traffic congestion, and boost our local economy.”

Among the grant recipients in the 12th District are:

  • Ambler Lakeview Development, LP, receiving $504,754 for critical sidewalk and roadway work along North Maple Avenue in Ambler Borough. This project aims to improve pedestrian access and safety in a rapidly developing area.
  • Hatfield Township, awarded $393,750 for roadway and sidewalk improvements to support a new police facility. These upgrades will enhance accessibility and safety for both law enforcement and the community.
  • Lower Moreland Township, securing $433,442 to construct sidewalks along Byberry Road, filling a significant gap in pedestrian infrastructure.
  • Montgomery Township, receiving $210,986 for the installation of a Rectangular Rapid-Flashing Beacon on Stump Road, a measure expected to significantly improve pedestrian crossing safety.
  • PREIT Associates LP, awarded $435,312 to reconfigure access roads to the Plymouth Meeting Mall, aiming to ease traffic flow and improve access for shoppers and employees.
  • Upper Moreland Township, received the largest grant of $897,375 to rehabilitate the Maryland Road bridge, a critical project for ensuring the safety and integrity of this important infrastructure.

The allocation of these funds aim to enhance transportation infrastructure as a means to foster safer, more connected communities. By addressing a range of projects from sidewalk construction to bridge rehabilitation, these grants reflect a comprehensive approach to improving the quality of life for Montgomery County residents.

Moreover, these investments have broader implications beyond immediate safety and accessibility improvements. Enhanced infrastructure supports local economies by facilitating smoother traffic flow, encouraging foot traffic to local businesses, and attracting development. As these projects unfold, they promise not only to improve day-to-day life in Montgomery County but also to contribute to its long-term growth and prosperity.

As the application window for the CFA Multimodal Transportation Fund opens annually, these grants highlight the ongoing opportunities for municipalities to seek funding for vital transportation projects. With continued investment in infrastructure, Pennsylvania aims to build stronger, more resilient communities equipped to meet the challenges of the future.
