PHILADELPHIA, PA — Bridge repair work on northbound Interstate 95 in South Philadelphia has been announced by the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (PennDOT), necessitating overnight lane closures and potential traffic delays.
On Sunday, December 22, from 7:00 PM to 5:00 AM the following morning, the right two lanes and shoulder of northbound I-95 will be closed between Washington Avenue and Christian Street. This section is located just past the Columbus Boulevard/Washington Avenue Interchange (Exit 20).
Motorists traveling through the area should anticipate significant backups and are advised to allow extra time for their commutes. The planned work is subject to weather conditions and may be rescheduled if necessary.
The project is part of PennDOT’s efforts to maintain and improve the integrity of critical infrastructure on one of the region’s most heavily traveled thoroughfares. Drivers are urged to exercise caution while passing through the work zone and to remain alert for updated travel advisories.
