CHADDS FORD, PA — North American Land Trust (NALT) has partnered with the City of Naples, Florida, and The Athens Group to permanently protect 105 acres of land along Florida’s Gulf Coast. This conservation easement, covering 84% of the Naples Beach Club’s 125-acre property, ensures that the area will remain dedicated to recreation and open space for future generations.
The agreement is part of a redevelopment plan by The Athens Group, in collaboration with BDT & MSD Partners, to transform the former Naples Beach Hotel and Golf Club. The conservation easement includes the creation of a stormwater system exceeding state and city standards, enhancing environmental resilience in the area.
“The City of Naples is pleased to accept this historic grant of a Conservation Easement,” said City Manager Jay Boodheshwar. “This generous action preserves precious greenspace in our community and sets a model for redevelopment projects locally and nationwide.”
NALT President Steven Carter emphasized the organization’s role in facilitating partnerships to meet conservation goals. “We were pleased to assist the City of Naples and The Athens Group in protecting this treasured resource from future development,” Carter said.
The project involved input from six Naples neighborhood associations and reflects a collaborative effort to balance development with environmental preservation. Jay Newman, COO of The Athens Group, described it as a milestone achievement highlighting their commitment to responsible development and natural resource preservation.
By securing the land through this agreement, the City of Naples and its partners have taken a significant step toward ensuring the balance between growth and conservation remains intact.
