Nighttime Resurfacing on I-76 to Cause Lane Closures, Expect Delays

Traffic Advisory

PHILADELPHIA, PA — The Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (PennDOT) announced that nighttime resurfacing operations and guiderail installation will take place next week on eastbound and westbound Interstate 76 (Schuylkill Expressway) in Philadelphia. This work is part of a $36.8 million project to resurface and repair nearly five miles of the interstate, along with associated ramps and over 20 bridges.

From Monday, June 17, through Friday, June 21, lane closures will be in effect from 9:00 PM to 5:00 AM the following morning between the U.S. 1 South (City Avenue) and Spring Garden Street interchanges on both directions of I-76.

Motorists should anticipate backups and delays and are encouraged to allow extra time for travel. All activities are weather dependent.

The project includes milling and overlaying pavement, repairing concrete bases, shoulders, and barriers, adjusting inlet grades, replacing damaged signs, installing new pavement markings, delineators, rumble strips, and performing bridge repairs.
