PHILADELPHIA, PA — The Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (PennDOT) has announced plans to conduct nighttime bridge repairs on northbound Interstate 95 in South Philadelphia next week. The work is part of a $40.3 million federally funded project aimed at addressing high-priority repairs on 27 bridges along this critical corridor.
From Monday, March 10, to Friday, March 14, lane closures will be implemented between 9:00 PM and 5:00 AM near the Walt Whitman Bridge Interchange to facilitate shoulder construction. Motorists are advised to anticipate delays and allow additional travel time while navigating the work zone. All scheduled activities are weather dependent.
The project includes extensive work on bridge decks, superstructures, and substructures to maintain safety and functionality. Repairs will address damaged concrete, structural steel, bearings, and expansion joints. Additional improvements involve cleaning and repainting 11 overhead steel sign structures and upgrading roadway lighting to LED technology.
IEW Construction Group, Inc., based in Hamilton, New Jersey, is overseeing the construction, which is expected to be completed by late 2027.
