Nighttime Repairs Scheduled for Bridges on Northbound I-95 in Philadelphia

Traffic Alert

PHILADELPHIA, PA — The Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (PennDOT) has announced overnight bridge repair work next week on northbound Interstate 95 in South Philadelphia as part of a $40.3 million initiative addressing 27 critical bridge structures in the city.

From Monday, March 17, through Sunday, March 23, a lane closure will occur nightly from 9:00 PM to 5:00 AM on the ramp from the Walt Whitman Bridge to northbound I-95 for bridge repairs. Additionally, single-lane closures will occur from 9:00 PM to 12:00 AM, followed by double-lane closures from 12:00 AM to 5:00 AM, on northbound I-95 just beyond the Walt Whitman Bridge Interchange for line striping and barrier installation.

This federally funded project involves repairs to bridge decks, structural steel, weld cracks, and other critical components. Crews will also replace expansion joints and clean and repaint 11 overhead sign structures. Upgrades to roadway lighting with LED fixtures are included.

IEW Construction Group, Inc., based in Hamilton, New Jersey, is managing the project, which is slated for completion in late 2027.

Motorists are advised to anticipate delays in the work zones and plan for additional travel time. PennDOT has noted that all activities are weather-dependent to ensure safety and efficiency during repairs.
