EAST HEMPFIELD TWP, PA — The Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (PennDOT) has announced a series of nighttime ramp closures and lane restrictions as part of the ongoing Centerville Road Improvement Project in East Hempfield Township, Lancaster County. These measures are crucial for advancing the project’s next phase and are scheduled to occur between 8:00 PM and 6:00 AM each night.
The planned work entails moving and resetting barriers, as well as restriping the pavement to facilitate traffic flow adjustments. This progression will allow construction efforts to commence in the median of Route 30, a critical component of the project’s extensive scope.
Commencing on the night of Monday, November 11, the westbound Route 30 off-ramp to Centerville Road will be closed. Motorists will be redirected via a detour that requires continuing west to the Mountville Exit, then returning east on Route 30 to reach the Centerville Road Exit. During this operation, the right lane of westbound Route 30 will also be closed to traffic.
The subsequent night, Tuesday, November 12, will see the closure of the eastbound Route 30 off-ramp to Centerville Road. The designated detour will direct traffic to proceed east to the Rohrerstown Road Exit, before looping back west on Route 30 to Centerville Road. Concurrently, the left lane of westbound Route 30 will be inaccessible.
Wednesday night, November 13, will involve the closure of the on-ramp from Centerville Road to eastbound Route 30. The detour will guide vehicles onto westbound Route 30 toward the Mountville Exit to access the eastbound route. Additionally, the left lane of eastbound Route 30 will be closed during this period.
Finally, on Thursday night, November 14, both the eastbound and westbound left lanes of Route 30 will be closed to facilitate the construction of temporary entrances necessary for the ongoing work.
Daytime operations will continue with minimal traffic disturbances as needed. This infrastructure enhancement initiative encompasses a wide array of improvements, including the replacement of structures, application of Superpave overlay, roadway widening, milling, and various other critical upgrades. The project spans Centerville Road from Cornerstone Drive to Marietta Avenue (Route 23) and extends along Marietta Avenue to Stony Battery Road, predominantly situated within East Hempfield Township, with some sections reaching into Manor Township.
JD Eckman, Inc., based in Atglen, PA, serves as the primary contractor for this $36.3 million project, which is anticipated to reach completion by July 22, 2025. These night closures are a pivotal step in ensuring the project’s timely and efficient progression, ultimately aiming to enhance the region’s transportation infrastructure.
