E. HEMPFIELD TWP, PA — The Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (PennDOT) has announced that milling and final paving will commence next week as part of the ongoing Centerville Road Interchange Improvement Project in East Hempfield Township, Lancaster County. The nighttime work, scheduled between 7:00 PM and 6:00 AM, will involve major traffic impacts within the project area.
The initial phase will focus on Marietta Avenue (Route 23), where paving is set to begin first. Following its completion, crews will move southward on Centerville Road to continue the improvements. Intermittent closures of up to 15 minutes at intersections and driveways will occur to facilitate the paving process.
Motorists should plan alternate routes and expect delays due to these intermittent interruptions. Lane restrictions will also continue nightly along Route 30, further impacting traffic in the vicinity.
This extensive $36.3 million project, led by JD Eckman, Inc., includes roadway widening, Superpave overlay, base replacement, drainage and guiderail improvements, updated pavement markings, ADA-compliant infrastructure, new traffic signals, and replacement of major structures. Construction spans Centerville Road from Cornerstone Drive to Marietta Avenue and Marietta Avenue to Stony Battery Road, primarily in East Hempfield Township but partially within Manor Township.
PennDOT has noted that the project remains on track for an expected completion date in August 2025. Drivers traveling through the area are urged to exercise caution and account for additional travel time during construction hours.
