LANCASTER COUNTY, PA — The Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (PennDOT) announced a 3.3-mile pavement preservation project on Route 222 in Manheim, Warwick, and West Earl townships, set to begin next week.
Weather permitting, work will start on the night of Sunday, July 14, and continue nightly from 9:00 PM to 6:00 AM. The contractor will begin with milling in the northbound lanes, necessitating nighttime lane restrictions.
Motorists should prepare for periodic overnight closures of the ramps at the Route 772 (Brownstown/Rothsville) Interchange. PennDOT will issue updates prior to any ramp closures.
The project includes bituminous resurfacing, full-width milling, base repair, concrete patching, guide rail updates, line painting, and sign updates on both northbound and southbound Route 222, from the Bushong Road overhead bridge to the Pool Road overhead bridge.
Work on the northbound lanes and ramps at the Route 772 Interchange is expected to be completed this year. Southbound lane work, including the southbound ramps, will be completed next year.
Drivers should remain alert and exercise caution through the work zone as significant backups and delays are anticipated.
New Enterprise Stone and Lime Company, Inc., based in New Enterprise, PA, is the contractor for this $8,486,591 project. All work is expected to be completed by October 20, 2025.
