PHILADELPHIA, PA — The Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (PennDOT) announced that core borings will continue at night next week on Interstate 95 in Northeast Philadelphia. This work is essential for the design phase of the upcoming I-95/AF3 project.
From Sunday, June 30, through Tuesday, July 2, a right lane closure will be in place on northbound and southbound I-95 between the Allegheny Avenue and Betsy Ross Bridge interchanges. The closures will run from 8:00 PM to 5:00 AM each night.
Motorists should expect traffic backups and delays and are advised to allow extra travel time through the work area. As always, scheduled activities are weather dependent and may be adjusted if conditions do not permit safe operations.
The core borings are part of preparations for reconstructing northbound I-95 and its structures between Ann Street and Wheatsheaf Lane. Construction for Section AF3 is tentatively planned to begin in 2025.
