SOUTHEASTERN PENNSYLVANIA — The Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (PennDOT) has announced that nighttime construction will continue next week on Interstate 476. The work is part of two separate projects aimed at improving travel and safety on the interstate, including the associated ramps and bridges in Delaware and Montgomery counties.
Motorists should be aware of the following travel restrictions:
- From Sunday, December 10 to Thursday, December 14, a single lane closure will be in place on various sections of northbound and southbound I-476 between the I-76 and I-95 interchanges from 8:00 PM to 5:00 AM. This is for bridge deck repair, inlet top replacement, and tree clearing operations.
- On Monday, December 11, the northbound I-476 ramp to westbound MacDade Boulevard will be closed from 9:00 PM to 5:00 AM for temporary barrier removal. During this time, motorists will be redirected to use the northbound I-476 ramp to eastbound MacDade Boulevard, Fairview Road, and Route 320 (Chester Road).
- From Monday, December 11 to Wednesday, December 13, single lane closures are scheduled on MacDade Boulevard between I-476 and Fairview Road from 8:00 PM to 5:00 AM for temporary barrier and line painting operations.
- On Tuesday, December 12, 15-minute traffic stoppages will be in place on the ramp from northbound I-476 to MacDade Boulevard from 9:00 PM to 5:00 AM for sign structure removal.
- On Tuesday, December 12 and Wednesday, December 13, a moving lane closure will be in place on northbound I-476 between I-95 and the MacDade Boulevard Interchange, and from the Media Swarthmore Interchange (Exit 3) to just north of the Lima/Springfield Interchange (Exit 5) from 8:00 PM to 5:00 AM for rumble strip installation.
Drivers are advised to allow extra time when traveling through these work areas due to potential significant backups and delays. All scheduled activities are weather dependent.
The bridge deck repair, inlet top replacement, and tree clearing operations are part of a $63.7 million project to resurface, repair, and improve nearly 17 miles of the interstate from Interstate 76 (Schuylkill Expressway) in West Conshohocken Borough, Montgomery County, to Interstate 95 in Ridley Township, Delaware County.
The remaining operations are part of a $16.2 million project aimed at improving travel and safety on MacDade Boulevard and at the northbound I-476 and MacDade Boulevard Interchange in Ridley Township.
