BENSALEM TWP, PA — The Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (PennDOT) has announced upcoming nighttime construction on U.S. 1 in Bensalem Township, part of a $116 million initiative to reconstruct, widen, and enhance a three-mile stretch of the highway.
On Wednesday, November 13, and Thursday, November 14, from 8:00 PM to 6:00 AM, drivers will encounter a single lane closure in both directions on U.S. 1 between Rockhill Drive and Route 413 (Bellevue Avenue). This closure is necessary to facilitate a traffic shift as part of the ongoing improvements.
In addition, from Friday, November 22, through Sunday, November 24, Rockhill Drive will be closed nightly from 7:00 PM to 7:00 AM between Old Lincoln Highway and Neshaminy Boulevard for intersection reconstruction. During this period, motorists will need to follow detours:
- To access U.S. 1 North from Rockhill Drive, travelers should head north on Neshaminy Boulevard, turn west on Bristol Road, south on Old Lincoln Highway, and then east on Street Road to reach the U.S. 1 northbound ramp.
- For those traveling from U.S. 1 North to Rockhill Drive, the detour involves exiting at Penndel/Business U.S. 1, moving south on Old Lincoln Highway, east on Bristol Road, and south on Neshaminy Boulevard back to Rockhill Drive.
- Visitors going to Neshaminy Mall from U.S. 1 South should exit at Neshaminy/Rockhill Drive, proceed west on Rockhill Drive, north on Old Lincoln Highway, east on Bristol Road, and south on Neshaminy Boulevard.
This construction is part of PennDOT’s U.S. 1/RC2 contract, which aims to improve the highway infrastructure from south of the Rockhill Drive Interchange to north of the Penndel/Business U.S. 1 Interchange. Motorists are advised to plan for potential delays and allocate extra travel time.
