PHILADELPHIA, PA — The Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (PennDOT) will continue its construction work on Interstate 76 (Schuylkill Expressway) in Philadelphia next week. This initiative is part of a $36.8 million project aimed at resurfacing and repairing the interstate, ramps, and over 20 bridges.
Starting Sunday, August 25, from 9:00 PM to 5:00 AM, a lane closure will occur on eastbound I-76 between Montgomery Drive and I-676 (Vine Street Expressway) for milling and paving. The eastbound ramp to Girard Avenue will also close during these hours, with detours directing motorists to Belmont Avenue and Montgomery Drive.
From Monday, August 26, through Thursday, August 29, the eastbound I-76 ramp to northbound U.S. 1 will be closed for bridge repair. Drivers will be rerouted via the Montgomery Drive Interchange and westbound I-76.
Additionally, lane closures will affect both directions of I-76 for milling and paving. Commuters should expect delays and plan for extra travel time. All activities depend on favorable weather conditions.
Under this project, crews will mill and overlay the pavement, perform concrete repairs, adjust inlets, replace signs, and install new markings and rumble strips.
