WEST CONSHOHOCKEN, PA — The Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (PennDOT) has announced that nighttime construction on Interstate 476 and I-76 (Schuylkill Expressway) will continue next week as part of a $63.7 million infrastructure improvement project.

From Monday, December 9, through Thursday, December 12, construction will occur nightly from 8 p.m. to 5 a.m. the following morning at the following locations:

  • Lane closures will affect sections of northbound and southbound I-476 between the I-76 and I-95 interchanges for tree trimming and guiderail and inlet replacement.
  • Eastbound and westbound I-76 between Matsonford Road and I-476 will experience lane closures for bridge repairs.

Motorists should expect significant delays and are encouraged to allow extra travel time. All activities are subject to weather conditions.

The broader project involves resurfacing and repairing nearly 17 miles of I-476, including ramps and bridges. Improvements include bridge repairs, sound wall maintenance, stormwater basin upgrades, slope stabilization, and the installation of new pavement markings, guiderails, rumble strips, and signs.

This key infrastructure initiative aims to improve ride quality, extend the lifespan of the interstate, and enhance travel safety. Construction is managed by H&K Group, Inc., and is expected to conclude in late 2025.
