PHILADELPHIA, PA — The Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (PennDOT) has announced that nighttime construction activities, including milling, paving, and bridge repair, will continue next week on Interstate 76 (Schuylkill Expressway) in Philadelphia.

Starting on Sunday, August 11, and running through Friday, August 16, various sections of I-76 will experience lane and ramp closures each night from 9:00 PM to 5:00 AM the following morning.

On Sunday, August 11, and Monday, August 12, the ramp from eastbound I-76 to northbound U.S. 1 (Roosevelt Expressway) will be closed for paving and bridge repair. Drivers will be detoured via Montgomery Drive to access northbound U.S. 1.

On Monday, August 12, a lane closure will occur on the ramp from eastbound I-76 to southbound U.S. 1 (City Avenue) for guiderail installation.

From Monday, August 12, to Friday, August 16, the first ramp from westbound I-76 to southbound U.S. 1 (City Avenue) will be closed for bridge deck repair. Motorists will need to use the second ramp to southbound U.S. 1.

Additionally, the ramp from southbound U.S. 1 to westbound I-76 will be closed for bridge deck repair. Drivers will be directed to use eastbound I-76 and exit at Montgomery Drive to access westbound I-76.

Work will also affect the ramp from Girard Avenue to westbound I-76, with closures for guiderail installation, milling, and paving. Motorists should anticipate delays and plan extra travel time when navigating these work zones. All scheduled activities are weather dependent.

PennDOT’s contractor will conduct a range of operations under this contract, including milling and overlaying I-76 pavement from U.S. 1 to I-676, performing concrete base, shoulder, and barrier repairs, adjusting grades for existing inlets, replacing damaged signs, and installing new pavement markings, delineators, and rumble strips.

PennDOT urges drivers to exercise caution and patience while traveling through these work areas, as these construction efforts are crucial for enhancing road safety and improving travel conditions.
