PHILADELPHIA, PA — Nighttime bridge repairs are set to continue next week on Interstate 95 in Philadelphia. The work is part of a $44.6 million Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (PennDOT) project aimed at performing high-priority repairs on several structures across Philadelphia, Delaware, and Bucks counties.
On Monday, November 20, and Tuesday, November 21, lane closures are scheduled on I-95 in both directions between the Broad Street (Route 611) Interchange and South Street. The closures will be in effect from 7:30 PM to 5:00 AM the following morning.
Motorists are being advised to allow extra time when traveling through the work area as backups and delays are anticipated. All scheduled activities are weather dependent, meaning inclement weather could potentially reschedule the repairs.
The project involves a series of essential repairs including the replacement of rocker bearings, frozen sliding plate bearings, and deck expansion joints. Additional work includes cleaning and painting steel beams, repairing substructure concrete, and reconstructing bearing pedestals.
Furthermore, the project encompasses the replacement of high mast light poles along the I-95 corridor in Philadelphia and Delaware counties, enhancing visibility for drivers during nighttime hours.
The general contractor for the project is Driscoll Construction Company, Inc., a Philadelphia-based firm. The project is entirely financed by federal funds, demonstrating the government’s commitment to maintaining and improving the nation’s infrastructure.
As the project continues, PennDOT urges drivers to exercise caution and patience while navigating the affected areas, ensuring the safety of both the motorists and the construction crews at work.
