PHILADELPHIA, PA — The Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (PennDOT) has announced a series of nighttime bridge repairs on U.S. 1 (Roosevelt Expressway) in Philadelphia. This work is part of a comprehensive $100.6 million project to rehabilitate the Wayne Junction Viaduct, a critical structure over the SEPTA tracks and Nicetown neighborhood.
Construction is scheduled from Wednesday, September 4, through Friday, September 6, with work taking place between 6:00 PM and 5:00 AM. During these hours, drivers can expect periodic single and double lane closures on the southbound expressway between Henry Avenue and I-76. Additionally, the ramp connecting southbound U.S. 1 to westbound I-76 will be closed. To accommodate this, motorists will be rerouted east on I-76, exiting at Montgomery Avenue and continuing to westbound I-76.
PennDOT advises travelers to anticipate significant delays and plan for extra travel time. The schedule is subject to change based on weather conditions, as PennDOT aims to ensure the safety and efficiency of this vital infrastructure project.
