LANCASTER COUNTY, PA — The Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (PennDOT) has announced the resumption of a significant pavement preservation project on Route 222 in Manheim, Warwick, and West Earl townships.
Weather permitting, night work is set to begin Sunday, April 6, with crews performing operations from 8:00 PM to 6:00 AM. Initial efforts will include milling in the southbound lanes, necessitating nighttime lane restrictions. Additionally, periodic overnight closures of the southbound ramps at the Route 772 (Brownstown/Rothsville) Interchange are anticipated. Notifications will precede any ramp closures to minimize disruption.
The $8.49 million project involves comprehensive maintenance, including resurfacing, full-width milling, base and concrete repairs, guiderail updates, line painting, and sign replacement. Work will span from the Bushong Road overhead bridge to the Pool Road overhead bridge.
While northbound Route 222 underwent significant improvements last year, weekend lane closures will occur this year to complete bridge work. The work on the southbound lanes and ramps is slated for completion by the end of the year, with full project completion expected on October 20, 2025.
New Enterprise Stone and Lime Company, Inc., headquartered in New Enterprise, PA, is managing the project. Drivers are urged to remain cautious and alert while traveling through the work zone.
