Nightly Lane Closures Announced for Ongoing I-476 and I-76 Repair Project

traffic alert expect delays

WEST CONSHOHOCKEN, PA — The Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (PennDOT) has announced that nighttime construction will continue next week on I-476 and I-76 under a $63.7 million improvement project aimed at resurfacing and repairing nearly 17 miles of interstate roadways, ramps, and bridges in Montgomery and Delaware counties.

Scheduled work will occur between the I-76 (Schuylkill Expressway) in West Conshohocken Borough and I-95 in Ridley Township. Lane closures will be in place on Thursday, December 26, and Friday, December 27, from 9:00 PM to 5:00 AM. Traffic in both directions of I-476 will be impacted near the I-76 and I-95 interchanges for bridge repairs, utility construction, and inlet replacements. Motorists should anticipate significant delays and are advised to allocate extra travel time. All operations are weather-dependent.

The comprehensive project managed by H&K Group, Inc. includes milling and overlaying of travel lanes and shoulders, repairs to 49 structures, and addressing stormwater management issues through improvements to 21 basins and drainage inlets. Additional work includes rock slope stabilization, sound wall repairs, the installation of new guiderails and signage, and other measures to enhance safety and ride quality.

Funded entirely by federal resources, this initiative aims to extend the design life of the highway and address deteriorating roadside elements. The project, which began earlier this year, is expected to conclude by late 2025, offering long-term benefits for regional transportation.
