PHILADELPHIA, PA — Overnight construction is scheduled next week on I-95 in Philadelphia and Delaware counties, the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (PennDOT) has announced. Lane closures will occur at various locations for maintenance and testing work.
From Sunday, January 26, to Friday, January 31, lanes will be closed nightly between 9:00 PM and 5:00 AM on the northbound deck of the I-95 Girard Point Bridge for Intelligent Transportation Systems (ITS) equipment maintenance.
During the same period, lane closures will also affect southbound I-95 between the Route 420 (Essington) and I-476 interchanges from 9:00 PM to 5:00 AM each night for ITS equipment maintenance as part of the I-95 Section GR8 project.
Additionally, from Monday, January 27, through Friday, January 31, lanes will close nightly from 8:00 PM to 5:00 AM on southbound I-95 between the Girard Avenue and I-676 interchanges for core boring work. This is part of the preparatory design phase for the I-95 Section GR6 project, which will involve the reconstruction of I-95’s southbound infrastructure between Frankford Avenue and Race Street starting in 2026.
Motorists are advised to use caution, plan for possible delays, and consider alternate routes during the scheduled work hours.
