PHILADELPHIA, PA — The Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (PennDOT) has outlined a series of nighttime construction activities on Interstate 76, also known as the Schuylkill Expressway, in Philadelphia. This $36.8 million project aims to resurface and repair nearly five miles of the interstate and includes improvements to ramps and more than 20 bridges.
From Tuesday, September 3, to Friday, September 6, between 9:00 PM and 5:00 AM, the ramp from westbound I-76 to Girard Avenue will be closed for milling and bridge deck repair. Detours will direct motorists via Montgomery Drive and eastbound I-76 to reach Girard Avenue. Similar closures and detours will occur for Lincoln Drive and Spring Garden Street ramps throughout the week.
Additionally, lane closures will affect sections of both eastbound and westbound I-76 between the U.S. 1 and Girard Avenue interchanges over the weekend. These closures will facilitate high-friction surface treatment, ensuring improved safety and ride quality.
Motorists should brace for delays and plan extra travel time. All construction activities are subject to favorable weather conditions. PennDOT is encouraging drivers to remain informed about potential changes and exercise caution in work zones.
