NEWARK, DE — The Criminal Investigations Unit of the Newark Police Department is actively investigating an incident that occurred at the Acme grocery store located at 100 Grove Lane.
According to the victim’s family, on Saturday, February 17, 2024, at around 3:45 P.M., an unknown man took control of a grocery cart in which an eight-year-old child was seated. The man, who was not known to either the child or her accompanying family members, reportedly started to push the cart away at a fast pace. He was confronted by the child’s family, released the cart, and promptly exited the store.
As of Monday, February 19, 2024, detectives, with the help of public tips following social media and local news reports, have identified and contacted the person of interest in this case. Authorities assure the public that there is no immediate threat related to this case.
